Bible Study - Week 14

Join us for Week 14 of the "Profoundly Christian, Distinctly Methodist" Bible study series at Mount Pleasant Methodist Church (Global Methodist Church), where we dive deep into Question 30 of the Global Methodist Catechism: exploring the mission of the church.

In this lively and interactive session, the congregation discusses:
"Why does the church exist?"

Without peeking at Scripture first, participants share honest answers like worship, fellowship, growing in faith, making disciples, helping those in need, bearing one another's burdens, and living as a witness to the world. The discussion then turns to key Bible passages that reveal God's true purpose for the church as the body of Christ.

Scriptures explored include:

  • 1 Corinthians 12:27-28 & 14:12
  • Galatians 6:1-10
  • Ephesians 4:11-16
  • Hebrews 3:12-14 & 10:23-25

Hear thoughtful conversations on:

  • What it means to "fulfill the law of Christ" by bearing one another's burdens
  • The difference between being "on a mission" (temporary) vs. "having a mission" (lifelong calling)
  • The role of spiritual gifts in building up the body
  • Doing good to all, especially the family of faith—and extending love beyond church walls
  • Perseverance, encouragement, avoiding hard-heartedness, and living out Wesleyan emphases on grace, love, self-denial, and works of mercy

This engaging group study highlights how the church is called to be a living, breathing community equipped by the Holy Spirit to worship God, nurture disciples, love neighbors, and make a difference in the world—inside and outside the four walls.

Whether you're part of our church family, exploring Methodist theology, or seeking deeper discipleship, this session will challenge and inspire you to reflect: Is the church merely an organization... or a lifelong mission rooted in Christ's love?
