Welcome to Week 2 of our Bible study series, "Profoundly Christian, Distinctly Methodist," hosted by Mount Pleasant! Join us as we continue our 10-month journey through "A Catechism of Christian Faith and Doctrine for the Global Methodist Church," rooted in the Nicene Creed. This session delves into Questions 4-6, exploring God's almighty nature, His relationship to creation, and how He rules with grace and purpose.

In this video, we cover:

  • Question 4: How is God Almighty? God is infinite in power, wisdom, justice, goodness, and love. Scriptures include Job 12:13, Job 42:2, Psalm 107:1, Psalm 89:14, Luke 1:37, Matthew 19:26, Romans 5:8, Romans 11:33-36, and 1 John 4:7-16.
  • Question 5: What is God's relation to heaven and earth? God is Creator, Sovereign, and Preserver of all things. Key verses: Deuteronomy 4:39, Psalm 8:1, 1 Kings 8:23, Proverbs 16:9, Isaiah 44:24.
  • Question 6: How does God rule over heaven and earth? With gracious regard for the well-being and salvation of all, to the glory of His name. Reflections on John 3:16, Ephesians 2:4-7, Romans 8:28, and 2 Peter 3:9.

Key Themes:

  • God's perfect, infinite attributes and their impact on our sense of dependence, humility, and gratitude.
  • Sovereignty vs. free will, the reality of evil, Satan's deception, and God's redemptive plan for all creation.
  • Practical applications: Viewing every person as worthy of salvation and living as hands and feet of Christ.
  • Group discussion on hymns like "Holy, Holy, Holy" and the Nicene Creed recitation.
