Welcome to Week 3 of our Bible study series, "Profoundly Christian, Distinctly Methodist," at Mount Pleasant! We're continuing our 10-month exploration of "A Catechism of Christian Faith and Doctrine for the Global Methodist Church," grounded in the Nicene Creed. This session reflects on the first six questions, deepening our understanding of faith in a modern, post-Christian world.
In this video, we review and discuss:
- Questions 1-6 Recap: Do you believe in God? Who is God and the mystery of the Trinity? How is God almighty? What is God's relation to heaven and earth, and how does He rule?
- Reflections on faith as more than head knowledge—it's trust amid secular influences, cultural shifts, and personal challenges.
- God's sovereignty in tragedies (e.g., discussions on Charlie Kirk's death, family losses), free will, and His gracious plan for all creation's well-being and salvation.
- Practical insights: Living out belief through community, humility ("God is God and I am not"), and growing faith via scripture, prayer, and fellowship.
Key Themes:
- Navigating doubt in a postmodern era: From canned answers to authentic, scripture-based belief.
- God's unchanging attributes (power, love, justice) and their comfort in unexplained events.
- The role of community in faith growth—challenges, feedback, and mutual encouragement.
- Preview: Next week, Questions 7-9 on Jesus' divine nature (pages 25-28), with a video viewing.
